Avantor Devens, Massachusetts
Description
Avantor engaged Hodess to design and construct a 10,000 sf ISO 7 and ISO 8 medical device assembly cleanrooms within an existing warehouse facility in Devens, Massachusetts. Delivered under a design-build model, the project transformed open warehouse space into a controlled manufacturing environment.
A structural steel platform was engineered to support the elevated cleanroom, with provisions for a future cleanroom phase below. New mechanical systems were installed to serve the space, including a chiller, pumps, air handling units, humidifiers, and custom-designed recirculation fans suited for tight overhead conditions where traditional ductwork was not feasible.
The project also included new electrical service with a primary transformer, switchgear, and a dedicated backup generator to ensure operational reliability. The cleanroom was constructed using insulated metal panels, a suspended cleanroom ceiling grid, and epoxy flooring, and features viewing windows along a customer observation corridor.
The facility was designed, constructed, and certified within six months, achieving completion ahead of the required deadline.
